Airlines have jumped on this growing trend with built-in "stopover" programs, which can come with free or discounted hotels, excursions, transportation, and food at the layover destination. Essentially, you can't intentionally book a longer layover to quality for the free stopover hotel. Northern Pacific Airways launched its first revenue flight between California and Las Vegas on Friday. Startup airline Northern Pacific Airways is struggling to take off — both figuratively and literally. However, regulators required Northern Pacific to start flying before it could apply for ETOPS — igniting a mad dash for its operating certificate and a new first route. On July 9, Northern Pacific got the official green light to launch flights, with CEO Rob McKinney sharing the news on Twitter. Despite the turbulent first two years of business and a shaky inaugural, Northern Pacific is still planning to eventually fly to Asia.

Icelandair orders 25 Airbus A321XLR as it replaces Boeing 757s

April 7 (Reuters) - Icelandair Group HF (ICEAIR.IC) said on Friday it secured a deal to purchase about 25 of European planemaker Airbus SE's (AIR.PA) latest A321XLR single-aisle jet, with deliveries slated to begin in 2029. Icelandair, however, said it plans to start using the world's largest planemaker's aircraft from 2025, and is currently in advanced negotiations to lease four Airbus A321LR planes for this purpose. "With the acquisition of the Airbus aircraft, Icelandair will complete the replacement of the Boeing 757," the company said in a statement. Icelandair said it would continue to operate a full Boeing fleet until 2025, after which a mixed fleet of both Airbus and Boeing planes will be in operation following the first deliveries from Airbus. But whereas this makes up some 12% of market forecasts for Boeing's 2023 deliveries, Airbus has secured just 9% of its 2023 target of 720 jets, below the trend for this time of year.
Northern Pacific Airways is launching its first-ever flights from Ontario, California, to Las Vegas on June 2. The carrier will use a 181-seater Boeing 757 with both economy and business class on the one-hour flights. "This announcement today represents the achievement of a major milestone for Northern Pacific Airways," he said. A screenshot of Northern Pacific Airway's booking process on its website. Travelers are stuck in an Icelandic airport after a blizzard dumped snow on the country. Keflavík Airport, easyJet, and Icelandair did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment. Despite multiple warnings from The Icelandic Meteorological Office, Iceland's government, and The Foreign Office, passengers told NBC that the airlines seemed under-prepared and barely communicated through the chaotic weekend of cancelations. Ryan Stevens, a traveler from London who is still stuck in Iceland, told Insider that Icelandair poorly handled the situation. Stevens is out 1,500 euros due to three nights in a hotel and two additional booked flights and said he hasn't heard anything about reimbursements or assistance.
Heavy snowfall and strong winds have imposed restrictions on operations at Iceland’s Keflavik Airport since the weekend, with a notice on the country’s airport authority Isavia’s website warning passengers of delays due to the weather. The Icelandic Meteorological Office issued a weather warning for the entire country, forecasting poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions. One Icelandic member of parliament tweeted that the country’s branch of the Red Cross had set up shelters for stranded travelers. "Where I feel they failed in their duty was to provide guidance and announcements to those stranded," said Jolene Christensen of Richmond, Virginia. Despite the ordeal, Becky hasn’t let the days of disruption at the end of her first trip abroad deter her.
Thankfully, there are a few ways to get around those extra fees, with more airlines offering passengers access to free Wi-Fi than ever before. Hawaiian Airlines is also planning to launch free in-flight Wi-Fi in 2023 thanks to its partnership with SpaceX's SkyLink. American Airlines also seems to be testing out free Wi-Fi on many of its aircraft that are equipped with Viasat — as part of an ongoing trial, passengers who opt to watch a sponsored video can access 30 minutes of Wi-Fi free of charge. Some international carriers offer free Wi-Fi, but with certain stipulations. Then, choose the airline's Wi-Fi network and login on the Wi-Fi homepage using your T-Mobile or Sprint phone number.
